At our July 17 Committee meeting, a proposed amendment to our By-Laws was introduced to reduce the quorum requirement for conducting business at MMPCDC meetings from the current 40% of Regular (voting) members to 30% of Regular (voting) members.
The purpose of this proposed amendment is to increase the likelihood that the required quorum for conducting Committee business will be present throughout all of our monthly business meetings.
The current language is our By-Laws is as follows: Section 8.2 Determination of a Quorum: The presence of 40% of the Regular members of the Committee shall constitute a quorum for the conduct of business.
The proposed revised language is as follows: Section 8.2 Determination of a Quorum: The presence of 30% of the Regular members of the Committee shall constitute a quorum for the conduct of business.
According to the Democratic Party of Virginia Party Plan (Section 10.5 on page 21), local Democratic committees in Virginia may set their quorum requirement anywhere between 30% and 40% of their members.
The MMPCDC Regular members will vote on whether to approve this proposed change at our August 21, 2019 meeting (assuming the current 40% quorum requirement is met at that time).
