First Amendment Defense Act: Jim Crow and gay marriage
The Republican National Committee has decided to back the First Amendment Defense Act which essentially permits anyone to refuse to provide services to any gay married person or gay married couple who claims to have a religious objection to gay marriage. Plainly this “Act” mirrors the proposed law introduced earlier this year by Bob Marshall here in Virginia. What this means is that if you are gay and married,…

What a great evening at the Columbus Grill where we were treated to remarks by Senator Tim Kaine as to why we must get out the vote for Jeremy McPike. Jacqueline Smith, candidate for Clerk of the Court as well as Paul Ebert who will be re-elected as our Commonwealth’s Attorney were also present. Members of the Manassas/Manassas Park Democratic Committee attended along with Prince William County Democrats, elected officials…

Let’s face it: Republican Jackson Miller’s most memorable community moment is when he organized a big hullabaloo over Temptations, the lingerie shop that is now closed (like so many other non-restaurant Manassas businesses.) He managed to rile the extreme right wing masses and transported them to a Manassas City Council meeting wringing his hands that the shop would attract drug dealers and perverts. Well, that never happened. But the…

I couldn’t help but notice yesterday that Hal’s posse has been out blanketing Manassas with yard signs and large campaign signs. Using the color blue (Democratic color), the signs, like his website, fail to mention that he is a hard right Republican or a Republican at all. Mayor Tie-Breaker has demonstrated that he is a puppet of the extreme local GOP by ignoring the residents of Georgetown South who do…

I thought that it would be good to share Harry Wiggins’ letter to the WAPO that appeared in today’s paper which succinctly explains why photo ID laws are crafted to restrict access to the polls when there is zero evidence of voter fraud. Enjoy. August 21 at 5:20 PM E.J. Dionne Jr.’s Aug. 20 op-ed column, “No retreat on voting rights,” could not be more applicable than in Virginia. The 1902…

Watching the current GOP Presidential hopefuls, I can’t help but be reminded of an old 1994 Seinfeld episode “The Opposite.” In that episode, everything goes bad for Elaine, while George soars with success. Jerry just comes out even. Not to disparage any particular candidate (well maybe), but when George just says anything that comes into his head, he wins. This reminds me of the Trump phenomena. He can blurt our…

Next week, until August 29, 2015, the Manassas Park Community Center will be closed for its annual cleaning. Manassas Park should be proud of this facility which serves Manassas and Manassas Park residents. The pool is great with many great classes. The Community Center is the site of a diverse population from babies to the most senior among us. I recommend it highly. A microcosm of society.

Hello Folks. This is my first post but on a hopefully regular basis I will be posting information on behalf of the Manassas and Manassas Park Democratic Committee that is relevant to the citizens of Manassas and Manassas Park. The posts might include event notices, articles or even musings. For example, next Monday night, August 24, 2015 at 6:30 p.m., the Democratic candidate for Virginia’s 29th District, Jeremy McPike, will…
