Is It Opposite Day?

Watching the current GOP Presidential hopefuls, I can’t help but be reminded of an old 1994 Seinfeld episode “The Opposite.”  In that episode, everything goes bad for Elaine, while George soars with success.  Jerry just comes out even.  Not to disparage any particular candidate (well maybe), but when George just says anything that comes into his head, he wins.  This reminds me of the Trump phenomena.  He can blurt our some of the most outrageous, insulting and vile comments and what happens?  He moves up in the polls leaving the heir-apparent Bush in his dust.  Is this what it takes to be our President?  I hope not.

I’ve heard the excuse that he is just articulating the frustrations and hopelessness of large segments on the right.  Instead, I think it gives credence to racism, intolerance and barbarism.  It’s okay to hate.  No need to consider anyone else’s position or feelings.  According to Trump, it’s too “PC.”  And his style is simply not the manner in which any parent would want to raise their child or at least any parent who is responsible.

What’s next?  Vilifying the disabled?  The elderly?  All brown eyed people?  Sound familiar?

Although I despise the Trump message, I won’t deny that I can’t stop watching.  I’m like the ultimate rubber necker, in some respects hoping he succeeds so the Democrats can be the only adults in the room providing reassurance and support to the majority of Republicans.  This is crazy!
