The Manassas and Manassas Park Cities Democratic Committee (MMPCDC) has scheduled an unassembled caucus to nominate a Democratic candidate for the Manassas City Council Special Election that will coincide with the November 5, 2019 General Election.
Candidates who seek the Democratic Party nomination for this office must submit a completed Declaration of Candidacy form and a $250 filing fee to the MMPCDC by Thursday August 8, 2019 at 5 pm. Complete details–including the Call to Caucus, the Declaration of Candidacy form, and the Caucus Rules–are posted on the MMPCDC website, www.manassascitydemocrats.org.
If more than one candidate should properly file for the Democratic nomination by the August 8th deadline, an unassembled caucus (aka firehouse primary) will be held to select the nominee.
The caucus for the Manassas City Council nomination is scheduled for Wednesday August 14, 2019, 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm, at the City of Manassas Public Works and Utilities Building, 8500 Public Works Drive, Manassas VA 20110 in the conference room. The doors will open at 5:00 pm for check-in and will close promptly at 9:00 pm. Anyone in line at 9:00 pm will be allowed to vote. Voting will be open to all registered voters from the City of Manassas who sign a standard Democratic declaration form and arrive for voting before 9 pm.
If only one qualified candidate files for the special election by the August 8 deadline, the Chair may declare that candidate to be the Party’s nominee and cancel the nominating Caucus. A notice of such a caucus cancellation will be posted on the MMPCDC website by August 8 at 7:30 pm.
