Just a moment to set aside politics in memory of WDBJ-TV’s reporter Alison Parker and cameraman Adam Ward who were murdered yesterday during a live TV broadcast on the Roanoke, Virginia’s station. The murderer has been described as a disgruntled former WDBJ reporter who was terminated 2 years ago. He had displayed erratic behavior all of his career. You can imagine that the anger festered and with no human reality testing, he plotted to kill. This avenging murder was done on live TV while the murderer created his own video which he later downloaded to Facebook and Twitter (now deleted). Then he ran and eventually performed the cowardly act of killing himself. I guess one could try and understand. But it’s too late for Alison and Adam. Why does this pattern continue? We can’t forget these events. I think sometimes that because it seems to be such a regular occurrence, we have pushed the horror of it all into the basements of our brains. Something needs to be done. It’s more than gun control. How do we identify these murderers before the carnage? As a society, we are responsible for solving this horrible problem.
