The Virginia Railway Express (VRE) study to expand commuter rail service on the VRE Manassas Line and to possibly extend this service up to 11 miles into the Gainesville-Haymarket area will have its third public meeting on Wednesday, December 7, 6-8 pm, at Piney Branch Elementary School, 8301 Linton Hall Rd, Bristow VA 20136 (enter through Door 1). The meeting will provide an opportunity to comment on the final draft of alternatives that will be considered by the VRE Board for expanding Manassas Line service.
There alternatives include extending VRE service further into western Prince William County and into the Interstate Route 66 (I-66) corridor, adding up to 3 new stations, and closing or relocating the current Broad Run station. With or without an extension, the frequency of train service during peak commuting times could increase from the current 30 minutes times to 20 minutes.
