The four candidates are Andrew Adams, Steven Jansen, Mansimran Singh Kahlon, and Danica Roem. MMPCDC will hold an unassembled party caucus to select its Democratic nominee for City of Manassas Commissioner of the Revenue in the November 7, 2017 General Election. The unassembled caucus, also known as a “firehouse primary”, will be held on Thursday, June 8, 2017, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm, in the Manassas City Hall Council Chambers at 9027 Center St, Manassas VA 20110. The nominating caucus will choose between the two candidates who have properly filed for the Democratic nomination—Stephanie Tipple and Alonita Vannoy—in response to the MMPCDC’s call for candidates issued on May 2, 2017. The deadline for candidates to file for this Democratic nomination was May 26 at 5:00 pm. Voting in the caucus is open to every citizen who is registered to vote in the City of Manassas and agrees to not support any candidate in the General Election who is opposed to the resulting Democratic nominee. The doors to the caucus room will open for voter certification and voting at 6:30 pm and will close at 8:30 pm. Anyone standing in line at 8:30 pm will be allowed to vote. Voting must be in person at the time and location noted above. Voters may arrive anytime between 6:30 and 8:30 pm, cast their ballot, and leave. The caucus rules and other pertinent forms and information are posted on the MMPCDC website www.manassascitydemocrats.org . The Fairfax County Democratic Committee’s precinct operations team is offering a free half-day training on voter engagement, this Saturday, June 17, from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm at the Fairfax County Government Center, 12000 Government Center Pkwy, Fairfax VA 22035. Participants can choose three different 50-minute training sessions from among the six different sessions offered (most sessions will be repeated). The following training sessions are being offered: 1) Canvassing: THE most effective way to engage voters (offered twice) 2) Phone Banking Basics (offered twice) 3) Precinct Teams (offered twice) 4) Perfecting Your Hard Ask (offered once) 5) Basic Voter Registration and Education (offered twice) 6) Volunteer Leadership Forum/Managing Events (offered twice) This workshop seems well designed to help build our organization in our two cities. Thus, MMPCDC precinct captains, Outreach Committee members, candidates for election, and campaign volunteers are especially encouraged to attend. Since the workshop sessions are only about half-full to date, the organizers should gladly accept attendees from outside Fairfax County. * Manassas LGBTQ Proclamation Manassas LGBTQ Proclamation

On Monday, June 19, 2017 at 7:15 pm, the Manassas City Council will issue an official proclamation recognizing June as LGBTQ History Month and honoring LGBTQ members of the community. This is the first recognition of its kind in the City’s history, made possible by the leadership changes in recent City Council elections. Anyone who supports such causes is welcome and encouraged to help fill the City Council Chambers at Manassas City Hall, 9027 Center St, Manassas VA 20110. A good turnout will send a clear message to the community that all citizens should be valued. Supporters are encouraged to wear purple and gather in the lobby of Manassas City Hall at 6:45 pm. After the proclamation is presented, participants will gather for a celebratory drink at Bad Wolf Public House, 9406 Battle St, Manassas.

On Wednesday, June 21, supporters of nondiscrimination are asked to attend a public hearing of the Prince William County School Boardat 14715 Bristow Rd in Independent Hill, regarding proposed changes to its nondiscrimination policy to add the words “gender identity” and “sexual orientation”. Supporters are encouraged to wear purple and to speak before the PWC School Board in support of protecting LGBTQ children and staff. The hearing will begin at 7 pm and is expected to run for several hours. Equality Virginia representatives will be on site starting at 5:30 pm.

The Manassas City Police Department will host an information meeting regarding plans to build a new public safety building next to the Grant Avenue Shopping Center. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 27, at the current police headquarters, 9518 Fairview Ave., Manassas, starting at 7:00 pm. Everyone is welcome to attend. This building project is part of the City’s five-year Capital Improvement Program. Discussion topics will include a Public Safety Master Plan, Functional Elements, Space Needs, and Cost.
