{"id":841,"date":"2015-12-19T14:07:08","date_gmt":"2015-12-19T19:07:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/manassascitydemocrats.com\/?p=841"},"modified":"2017-01-12T00:25:39","modified_gmt":"2017-01-12T05:25:39","slug":"the-dishonesty-of-the-gop","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/manassascitydemocrats.org\/?p=841","title":{"rendered":"The dishonesty of the GOP"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So what&#8217;s the party of Donald Trump up to now? \u00a0It seems that the local GOP is, as usual, trying to limit the vote. \u00a0Notwithstanding that the GOP requires an oath for their March primary, now through Virginia Senator Carrico (R), the party of hate and division as well as derision, wants to limit voting rights by providing a mechanism whereby our local elections can be held at the time of ANY general election which includes elections with the lowest possible turnout which is how Republicans like it. \u00a0Their obvious disdain for the working public, especially in this area, can&#8217;t be ignored. \u00a0(See SB 43 Moving Municipal Elections.) \u00a0This is the usual MO of the party of Trump, Parrish, Aveni, Way and Lovejoy. \u00a0What you cannot achieve by legitimate means within the rules, just change the rules to suit themselves. \u00a0It&#8217;s the selfish party. \u00a0This bill along with Hal Pal&#8217;s desire to have a vote on the council instead of just as a tiebreaker, is a sign of true desperation. \u00a0The handwriting is on the wall. \u00a0And we will find candidates to eliminate this threat to local democracy.<\/p>\n<p>Although this plan, if enacted, would be be effective until 2016 and it still cannot affect our 2016 elections according to the way it is written. \u00a0So this makes it imperative that Way, Parrish and Lovejoy must go. \u00a0 Go Go Go. \u00a0Democrats only in November 2016!!!<\/p>\n<p>Oh, and BTW: \u00a0Here&#8217;s another Carrico bill: \u00a0Put the confederate flag back on the Virginia tags. \u00a0At least we know where the racists reside.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-body\">\n<p>Senator Charles W. Carrico Sr. told the Richmond Times-Dispatch (http:\/\/bit.ly\/228ILMZ ) that his constituents believe Gov. Terry McAuliffe went too far when he moved to have the plates phased out. The Grayson County Republican says he represents his district &#8220;first and foremost.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We put a filler out there to see how the district felt about it we probably got more responses on that than anything that I&#8217;ve put out before. And my position has been and will always be is you can&#8217;t pick and choose winners and losers under the constitution. It&#8217;s not against the law to be offended and you have a constitutional right to express yourself,&#8221; Carrico said.<\/p>\n<p>Carrico&#8217;s bill would amend a 1999 law authorizing specialty license plates honoring the Sons of Confederate Veterans to remove language prohibiting any logo or emblem in the design.<\/p>\n<p>House of Delegates Speaker William J.
