Since when does a government official have a “right” to deny marriage licenses or any other document to citizens based on religious views? \u00a0Kim Davis, the now-infamous Rowan County Clerk in Kentucky has decided that she operates the clerk’s office according to God’s rule and not the law. \u00a0Her attorney says she should be given an accommodation to opt out of issuing marriage licenses to gay couples because it’s against her religion. \u00a0But wait: \u00a0I see 2 issues here.<\/p>\n
The first issue is the remarkable consistency between Kim Davis and radical Islam. \u00a0The radical Islamists use religion to control behavior of everyone and, in particular, women.<\/p>\n
Second, her attorney’s argument about “accommodation” is misguided. \u00a0An accommodation has to be “reasonable” by, for example, allowing employees to wear turbans or head scarves. \u00a0Such an accommodation does not interfere with the job and duties that must be performed by the employee. \u00a0Another difference is that Kim’s clerkship is a government position. \u00a0Imagine if a gay married resident went to the Rowan Courthouse and asked for a building permit and it was denied because of religious beliefs.<\/p>\n
Tomorrow Kim Davis will appear in court and will probably be convicted of contempt because she has refused to follow the Court’s order. \u00a0I think she likes this. \u00a0She wants to be a martyr. \u00a0She wants to be removed from office. \u00a0She probably wouldn’t mind going to jail. \u00a0She is probably writing a book with a ghost writer and has been contacted by FoxNews for her new show. \u00a0Paying a fine won’t be a problem for Kim. \u00a0She will be supported by the radical right wingers. \u00a0And all of this piousness from a woman who has been divorced 3 times, married 4 times and had twins fathered by husband #3 while she was married to #2. \u00a0Oh, yeah. \u00a0Now she’s seen the light and wants to illuminate society with her newly-found religious views. \u00a0Kind of like the former smoker who just won’t stop nagging. \u00a0Only in this case, she is using her official capacity to control others maybe in the same way she felt she was controlled in the past. \u00a0I’d say professional mental health care shouldn’t be ruled out.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
