This notice has been updated as of the candidate-filing deadline of May 26, 2017 at 5:00 pm to reflect that no candidates have filed for either Manassas Park nomination, only one candidate (Patricia Richie-Folks) has filed for the City of Manassas Treasurer nomination, and two candidates (Stephanie Tipple<\/a> and Alonita Vannoy<\/a>) have filed for the City of Manassas Commissioner of the Revenue nomination.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The proposed nominating caucuses for the Manassas Park nominations are hereby cancelled because no candidates have filed for the Democratic nomination.\u00a0 Patricia Richie-Folks is automatically declared the Democratic nominee for City of Manassas Treasurer in the November 7, 2017 General Election because she was the only person to file for that nomination.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Because the nomination for City of Manassas Commissioner of the Revenue is contested by two candidates (Stephanie Tipple<\/a> and Alonita Vannoy<\/a>), that nominating caucus has been rescheduled to Thursday, June 8, in the Manassas City Hall council chambers, a larger and more convenient venue. \u00a0 Moreover, to expand and facilitate voting, the caucus format has been changed from an assembled caucus (aka mass meeting) starting at 7:00 pm to an unassembled caucus (aka firehouse primary) running from 6:30 \u2013 8:30 pm. \u00a0 All citizens who are registered to vote in the City of Manassas and who pledge to not oppose the winner of this Democratic caucus in the ensuing General Election are welcome to vote in this unassembled caucus<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

As part of the November 7, 2017 General Election, Manassas and Manassas Park voters will elect a Commissioner of the Revenue and a Treasurer for their <\/span>respective city.\u00a0 The following process for selecting the Democratic nominees for those elections was approved by the Manassas & Manassas Park Cities Democratic Committee at its membership meeting on May 1, 2017:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Candidates who seek the Democratic Party nomination for any of those offices must submit a completed Declaration of Candidacy form and a $250 filing fee to the MMPCDC by Friday, May 26 at 5 pm. Complete details\u2013including the Call to Caucus, the Declaration of Candidacy form, and the Caucus Rules-are posted at the links below.<\/p>\n

If more than one candidate for any elected office should properly file for the Democratic nomination by the May 26th deadline, an<\/del> assembled<\/del> caucus will be held to select the nominee.\u00a0 (Update: On May 26, an unassembled <\/strong>caucus was chosen to select the Democratic nominee for City of Manassas Commissioner of the Revenue).<\/span><\/p>\n

T<\/span>he caucuses for Manassas Park nominations are scheduled for Monday, June 5, 7:00 pm, at the Manassas Park Police Station, 329 Manassas Dr, Manassas Park 20111, in the first floor conference room.<\/del> (Update: These caucuses are now cancelled).<\/span> The caucuses for Manassas City nominations are scheduled for Wednesday, June 7, 7:00 pm, at the Manassas Park Police Station, 329 Manassas Dr, Manassas Park VA 20111 in the 1st floor conference room.<\/del>\u00a0 (Update: The nominating caucus for City of Manassas Treasurer is now cancelled, whereas the nominating caucus for City of Manassas Commissioner of the Revenue has been rescheduled for Thursday, June 8, 2017, in the Manassas City Hall Council Chambers for voting between 6:30 and 8:30 pm<\/strong>).<\/span><\/p>\n

For both sets of caucuses,<\/del> the doors will open at 6:30 pm for check-in and close promptly at 7:00<\/del> <\/del>8:30<\/span> pm. Voting will be open to all registered voters from the respective city who sign a standard Democratic declaration form and arrive for voting before 7:00<\/del> between 6:30 and 8:30<\/span> pm.<\/p>\n

If fewer than two qualified candidates file for a nomination by the May 26 deadline,\u00a0 the Chair may declare those candidates to be the Party\u2019s nominees and cancel the respective nominating Caucus. If there are no contested nominations for any seat, the Chair may cancel the Caucus entirely. A notice of all such caucus cancellations will be posted on the MMPCDC website by May 26 at 7:30 pm..<\/p>\n
