The nominee chosen at the <strong>August 8th <\/strong>unassembled caucus (firehouse primary) will represent the party on the ballot for the\u00a0special election taking place on <strong>November 3rd, 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Individuals seeking the Democratic nomination must complete all candidate filing requirements and submit them directly to Marci Settle, Chair of the Virginia House District 20&nbsp; Democratic Nominating Committee, or her designee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Candidate Filing Requirements &amp; Deadlines<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>All completed filing materials must be personally received by the Chair or a designated representative starting on <strong>Monday, June 29th at 12 pm ET<\/strong> and no later than <strong>Friday<\/strong>, <strong>July 24th at 5:00 PM ET<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prospective candidates are strongly encouraged to submit early, as any filing containing errors or omissions will be deemed incomplete. Candidates may supplement or amend their paperwork anytime before the hard July 24th deadline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To qualify for the ballot, a candidate must submit:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A <strong>Mandatory Filing Fee of $500<\/strong> (check made payable to <strong>MMPCDC<\/strong>) to assist with caucus costs. If only one candidate qualifies and the caucus is cancelled, this fee will be refunded (minus any expenses already incurred).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elections.virginia.gov\/media\/formswarehouse\/ballot-access-candidate-qualification\/sbe-506-521-petition-of-qualified-voters\/ELECT-506-521-Petition-of-Qualified-Voters-legal-size-(rev-5-8-24).pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"><strong>Petition of Qualified Voters Form<\/strong><\/a> containing at least <strong>75 valid signatures<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A completed copy of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elections.virginia.gov\/media\/formswarehouse\/ballot-access-candidate-qualification\/sbe-505-520-declaration-of-candidacy\/ELECT-505-520-Declaration-of-Candidacy-(Rev-7-1-24).pdf\"><strong>Office of <\/strong><\/a><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.elections.virginia.gov\/media\/formswarehouse\/ballot-access-candidate-qualification\/sbe-505-520-declaration-of-candidacy\/ELECT-505-520-Declaration-of-Candidacy-(Rev-7-1-24).pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Elections <\/a><\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.elections.virginia.gov\/media\/formswarehouse\/ballot-access-candidate-qualification\/sbe-505-520-declaration-of-candidacy\/ELECT-505-520-Declaration-of-Candidacy-(Rev-7-1-24).pdf\"><strong>Declaration of Candidacy Form<\/strong><\/a>, along with confirmation of its submission to the Manassas City Office of Elections.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elections.virginia.gov\/media\/formswarehouse\/campaign-finance\/2018\/candidates\/SBE_501_4-rev7-18.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"><strong>Certificate of Candidate Qualification Form<\/strong>,<\/a> with confirmation of COMET online submission.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Ballot Order Determination<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Candidates will be listed on the caucus ballot in the exact order that their completed and proper filings are certified by the Chair.
